The glitz and glam of Hollywood can come with a heavy price. Celebrities often have an entourage to help them look their best. Stylists spend endless hours to find the right wardrobe to complement a star’s body type. But being glamorous does not have to cost a fortune. If you you want to dress like the stars but have no idea which wardrobe you should have, here are a few tips that worked for me:
1. Identify your body type. I have written a previous blog on this area. Body types are wide by range. Know your body type first to identify which wardrobe cuts would flatter your shape. There are no perfect shapes; just perfect cuts.
2. Research. Research. Research. If I need a idea about a specific wardrobe, I research. Since I know my body type (a huge hourglass–with a bulging center!), I try to look for celebrities who have the same shape. Then try to search google images for fashion ideas that celebs whose shape and styles I can relate to. From there, I can get ideas on style, color, and cut. I love Kate Winslet’s wardrobe in The Holiday–very feminine, shapely, stylish, and sophisticated. So I try to research on her clothes and search for the particular outifts I liked. You can also check the New York Fashion Week for more style ideas.
3. Find your signature style. You dress not just for the part but you should dress to be you. Your clothes should be an expression of yourself. Accentuate assets and minimize flaws. Styling yourself should embody the best you. You do not have to dress to please everyone else. Try to experiment on styles that reflect your personality in a classy and chic way. Having the curves is not a license to wear something skimpy. You might end up looking trashy instead of classy. You might opt for concealment yet accentuating your shape. Sophia Lauren’s style–a svelte body camouflaged in cardigans and pencil cut skirts–gave her a smooth line while contouring her best parts. She carried her outfit with such sophistication and style while looking hot at the same time. If you feel good about what you’re wearing, others will notice it too.
4. Customize. Tailored dresses are ideal for any body type. Getting a seamstress’ service does not have to be pricey. Look for someone around your neighborhood who can follow your preferences and offer you her services in a reasonable manner. Maybe you can ask family and friends if they can recommmend someone to you. This way, you can enjoy a perfect fit in a designer-ish way without the rip-off.
